A Self-defeating Doctrine

One of the most self-defeating and demonic doctrines that has found its way into in the Church is the idea that the third person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, is no longer speaking direction to or gifting members the body of Christ to do the greater works that Jesus said His followers would do.  Such teaching basically says that Christ is no longer leading His Church in any tangible way, and that He’s left us as orphans to fend for ourselves and rely solely on our own understanding. He clearly stated that He would not do that, would be with us forever, and that we could do nothing apart from Him.

“I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.” – John 16:12-15

“Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” — John 14:12-18

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” – John 15:5
